With amazing buyers and incredible buying power, there are few exceptions you will need to make when choosing your flowers. Wascana Flower's will buy locally whenever possible but do have the ability to import from all over the world. The few exceptions of flowers unavailable in certain months are: May/June - Early July (pending conditions) - peonies, sweet peas and tulips. Late July-September - Dahlias. With the introduction of David Austin roses into the Canadian market, it has much alleviated the heart break from the short peony season, as they are the perfect peony substitution.
When considering your planning, know that we book up very quickly at Wascana, and some book up to a year in advance with a save the date deposit. This ensures your spot until you can begin deciding on your flowers. A good time to start choosing arrangements is after wedding party attire has been chosen. We do always leave room for smaller events, so we never want to discourage someone from inquiring. After a deposit is made, brides will have up to 30 days prior to the wedding to make any necessary changes. At this point we look to source out the flowers and confirm everything with our growers. After this point it makes guaranteeing product a little trickier.
We do a viewing with all our couples the day prior to the wedding where we teach them the right and the wrong way to carry a bouquet to optimize their figure and there dress style. We teach about the handle and care for the next day, the front and the back of the bouquets, go over boxing and labelling instruction for the next day and make delivery or pick up instructions. We take all the stress out of the next day in our short 15 min night before meeting.
Tanya at Wascana Flower Shoppe is the bridal specialist. She is very thorough and asks couples to bring a lot of information when they come for their consultations. Including photos of the dresses, the flower girl & ring bearer attire, as well as the groom and groomsmen looks. She asks that couples bring photos of things they have seen that they like and also things they don't. This helps to create the perfect visual for her to make 100% sure we are on track. Also helpful are colour palettes in the form of fabric samples or paint chips, to ensure she sees the colour the same way you do and the proper variety is ordered.
In no way do you need to have the exact bouquet decided on, but rather an idea of what they like, so we can fill the gap from there. It is not uncommon for my couples to bring very little floral info but rather just wedding inspiration and then ask that Tanya pieces it together for them, to get an overall look. Allow approx. 1.5 hours for your first meeting with Tanya, as you begin the process of choosing your beautiful arrangements!
